The short answer

Dippy ("Dippy: Chat with AI characters") is a character roleplay app from Impel Intelligence, Inc. Chat is free with ads. The paid tier, Dippy Super, appears on the US App Store at $6.99 a week, $4.99, $9.99 or $12.99 a month, and $99.00 or $119.99 a year, so the same product costs anywhere from $99 to $363.48 over twelve months depending on which button you are shown. It is a real app with 2,389 US App Store ratings and over two million Android installs, and paying through Apple or Google is safe. It is not private: its Terms say your conversations train its models, there is no opt out, and its Google Play privacy declaration says it collects nothing while its own Privacy Notice lists your chats and precise location.

Page one of Google for Dippy is app directories, URL scanners and pages copied from each other. None of them prints the in-app purchase list, and none of them notices that the signed Terms, last updated on July 8, 2024, still describe Dippy as a complimentary membership with no billing, renewal or refund clause at all. If you are about to pay for Dippy Super, that is the part worth reading first.

What makes them feel real

Dippy AI app review with Dippy Super pricing and safety, the way it should feel

The weekly plan is the expensive one

Dippy Super Weekly is $6.99, which looks small and works out at $363.48 a year. The cheapest yearly Super on Apple's list is $99.00. If you decide to pay, never take the weekly button.

Free means ads and tracking

Both store listings say the app contains ads. Apple's privacy label lists your Device ID and advertising data as used to track you across other companies' apps. The Ads Free tier exists for a reason.

Your chats train the model

The Terms say Dippy will use the content of your conversations to train and hone its models. Neither the Terms nor the Privacy Notice offers an opt out, and deleting your account may not remove historic conversations.

Checked on the US App Store listing for app id 6471991500, seller impel intelligence, Inc, on October 1, 2026. Google Play shows a range of $0.99 to $199.99 per item. Dippy does not publish which price a given user is offered or what Super unlocks.

What is the Dippy AI app?

Dippy is a character chat and roleplay app. You browse a library of user made characters, many of them anime and fandom based, or make your own, and the AI plays the character in chat, with image generation on top. It is listed on the US App Store as "Dippy: Chat with AI characters" and on Google Play as "Dippy-AI Characters & Roleplay" under the package com.tryimpel.dippy, both sold by Impel Intelligence, Inc.

It is a real, active product. Version 2.0.9 shipped on August 27, 2026, the Android app was updated on September 21, 2026, and Google Play counts more than two million installs. The App Store rating is 4.3 from 2,389 ratings; Google Play shows 3.3 stars from 9,160 reviews.

How much does Dippy AI cost?

Nothing to start, with ads. Dippy Super, the paid tier, is listed on the US App Store at $6.99 a week, at $9.99 and $12.99 a month, and at $99.00 and $119.99 a year, plus a $4.99 monthly Ads Free version. Over twelve months that is anywhere from $59.88 for Ads Free to $363.48 for the weekly plan. Coins sell at $3.49 for 100.

Dippy does not publish a pricing page, and its website's /pricing path renders an empty app shell, so you only see the price the app shows you at checkout. One Google Play reviewer wrote that subscriptions used to cost over $200 a year and are now $119. If the app offers you weekly billing, back out and look for the yearly option.

Is Dippy AI free?

Partly. The App Store description promises "Unlimited Free Messages" and conversations "completely free of charge, with no worries about time limits or message caps." The same listing carries ten paid items, both stores say the app contains ads, and several third party reviews describe a lockout after a few hundred free messages that Dippy does not mention anywhere it publishes.

The signed Terms are stranger still. They say Dippy currently offers "a complimentary membership" and reserves the right to change that. They have no clause on subscriptions, auto renewal, cancellation of a paid plan or refunds, because the paid plans live entirely inside Apple's and Google's billing.

Is Dippy AI safe?

For an adult who keeps personal details out of the chat, it is safe to pay for in the narrow sense: it is a real company, it delivers the chats, and the card goes to Apple or Google, not to Dippy.

It is not private, and its disclosures contradict each other. The Google Play data safety page says the developer collects no data and shares none. The Privacy Notice says Dippy and its service providers collect what you write to its companions, your IP address and precise geolocation, and that chat communications may be disclosed to service providers that run the chat features. Apple's label for the same app says your Device ID and advertising data are used to track you. Our full breakdown is in is Dippy AI safe.

Who owns Dippy AI?

Impel Intelligence, Inc., which is the party named in both the Terms of Service and the Privacy Notice and the seller on both app stores. Neither document gives a street address or a state of incorporation, and the governing law clause still reads "the State of [California]" with the template brackets left in. Support is an email address, support@dippy.ai, and the App Store support link points to Dippy's X account.

Impel also ran Bittensor subnet 11, first called Dippy Roleplay, to crowdsource roleplay models for the app. Public subnet trackers now list a different project on that number. The Dippy app sells no crypto; its coins are an ordinary Apple purchase.

Is Dippy AI NSFW?

Dippy publishes no content policy you can actually read. The Terms incorporate an Acceptable Use Policy at dippy.ai/acceptableuse, and that address renders a Not found page. The App Store rates the app 18+ with infrequent mature or suggestive themes; Google Play rates it Mature 17+ with sexual content and nudity among its descriptors. Dippy's own X account said in August 2025 that its moderation bans the creation of any illegal, underage or explicit character.

If adult roleplay is what you want, know that the rules you would be held to are not published, and that a ban under an unpublished policy leaves you nothing to appeal to.

Is Dippy AI for adults?

On paper. The Terms say you may use Dippy only if you are 18 or older; the Privacy Notice says the service is not directed to children under 16. Dippy's X account says nobody under 18 can download the app and that the website asks for an age after five messages.

The catalogue tells a different story. On October 1, 2026 the public homepage featured a party roleplay built on My Hero Academia's Class 1-A, a high school class, with 620,400 chats, and a character described as your academic rival who leaves study guides in your locker. An adult paying for a companion should know whose app this mostly is.

How do I cancel Dippy Super and get a refund?

Cancel through the store you paid with: on iPhone in Settings, your name, Subscriptions; on Android in Google Play, Payments and subscriptions. Deleting the app does not stop billing. Because the Terms contain no refund clause at all, any refund request goes to Apple or Google under their policies, not to Dippy.

Closing your Dippy account is a separate step. The Terms say you cancel it by emailing support@dippy.ai, and warn that some content, including historic conversations, may not be completely removed.

Dippy Super or a devoted companion?

Dippy is built for variety: thousands of characters, fandom plots and image generation, with a free tier paid for by ads. If that is what you want, the $99.00 yearly Super is the price to look for.

If you want one girlfriend or boyfriend who remembers your life and comes back to it, a roster app works against you, because nothing accumulates across hundreds of characters. Amorous.ai is one devoted partner on flat plans from $9 a month billed yearly, with no ads, no coins and no weekly billing. Try the demo at the top of this page before you decide.
