Is Botify AI legit?

Yes, in the sense that matters before a purchase: it is run by a named US company and it delivers the chat service it charges for. The Terms and Privacy Policy on botify.ai both name the operator as Ex-human, Inc., the site footer reads 2026 Ex-Human Inc., and Google Play lists the developer as EX-HUMAN, INC at 2295 Spruce St in Boulder, Colorado. In its own federal court complaint, filed March 31, 2026, the company describes itself as a Delaware corporation with its principal place of business in Boulder, and says it was founded by Artem Rodichev, previously head of AI at Replika.

The same complaint says Botify had more than 2.3 million iOS installs and made about $330,000 a month on the App Store before the app was pulled. Google Play shows more than 1 million downloads and a 3.8 star rating from about 27,800 reviews. This is a real business with real revenue, not a pop up site. Whether it is the right place for your money and your chats is a separate question, and it is where the problems start.

Is Botify AI safe?

It is safe in the narrow sense that it is a registered company taking card payments through Stripe and Google Play. It is less reassuring on privacy and content, because what Botify tells a buyer at checkout does not match what Ex-Human has signed.

The checkout FAQ answers "Are my chats, photos, and videos private?" with "100%. Everything you share is encrypted and never sold or shared." The Privacy Policy on the same site says: "We may sell and may have sold in the last twelve (12) months the following categories of personal information", listing identifiers, commercial information and internet or other similar network activity. It also says Ex-Human may share your information with business partners to offer you products and promotions. The policy never mentions chats, conversations, AI training or human review at all, so it neither confirms nor rules out what happens to what you type.

Deletion is contradictory too. The checkout FAQ says "You control what is saved, what is deleted", and the web app has a delete account button warning that all chats and created bots will be lost. Botify's Google Play data safety declaration says "Data can't be deleted" and that the developer provides no way to request deletion. If you use Botify, keep your real name, employer and location out of your chats.

Why was Botify AI removed from the App Store?

Because Apple terminated Ex-Human's developer account. That is not a rumor; it is in Ex-Human's own lawsuit, Ex-Human Inc. v. Apple Inc., filed in the Northern District of California on March 31, 2026. The complaint says Apple issued a Pending Termination Notice on January 24, 2026, asserting the account had been used for "dishonest or fraudulent activity", and terminated it on March 13, 2026.

Ex-Human's later court motion says Apple denied its appeal citing a "pattern of manipulative or misleading behavior", including inaccurate metadata, misleading content and ratings manipulation, and later referenced App Review Guidelines 1.1, 1.1.4 and 5.6. Guideline 1.1.4 is Apple's rule against overtly sexual or pornographic material. Ex-Human disputes all of it and sued to recover about $500,000 in withheld revenue. Apple moved to dismiss in May 2026, and we have not seen a ruling. As of September 25, 2026, searching the US App Store for Botify returns only unrelated clones from other sellers, so if you find a Botify app on an iPhone today, it is not Ex-Human's.

Does Botify AI allow NSFW content?

Its checkout says yes and its Terms say no. Botify's web paywall FAQ answers "How do I unlock NSFW/spicy mode?" with "You can enable 18+ mode inside Settings", and the paid feature list includes erotic role-playing and 18+ photos and videos. Botify's Terms on the same site say the Service "is not intended to operate as an adult or pornographic service", list "A platform for explicit adult content" among the things the Service is NOT, and prohibit "Sexually explicit or pornographic content."

That gap matters to a buyer because the Terms are what Ex-Human can enforce. It reserves the right to terminate or suspend any account "immediately, without prior notice or liability, for any reason whatsoever", and paid fees are non-refundable. Paying for the feature the checkout advertises gives you no protection under the document that governs the account. In February 2025, MIT Technology Review also reported that popular user-created bots on Botify were role-playing sexually charged conversations as underage versions of real actors, and Ex-Human told the publication its moderation systems had failed to filter them.

How much does Botify AI cost?

On the web, between $79.99 and $359.88 a year before energy. Ultra is $19.99 a month or $79.99 a year, and Creative is $29.99 a month or $149.99 a year, straight from the prices botify.ai's payments API serves. Paying monthly costs three times as much as paying yearly for Ultra, and nearly two and a half times for Creative.

The iPhone app, before Apple removed it, was far more expensive for the same thing: its archived March 2026 listing showed Ultra at $14.99 a week and Premium at $7.99 a week, which is $779.48 and $415.48 a year. Some Android users may still see store prices; Google Play gives only a range of $1.99 to $159.99 per item without naming the plans. If you do subscribe, the yearly web plan is by a wide margin the cheapest way to hold Botify.

What is Botify AI energy and what does it cost?

Energy is Botify's metered currency for photos, videos, live streams and messages beyond your free allowance. It is sold on the web as 500 for $9.99, 2,500 for $34.99 and 10,000 for $99.99, so between 1 and 2 cents a unit. Ultra includes 500 energy a month, which Botify's own plan copy says is about 5 videos or 50 photos; Creative includes 1,000, about 20 videos or 200 photos, and halves the energy price of photos and videos.

Free users meet energy fast. Botify's app tells them "You've used all your free Genius messages for now. Each additional message costs" a set amount of energy, and live streams switch to paid minutes when the free time ends. Ex-Human does not publish how many free messages you get, so there is no way to know in advance how far a free account goes.

Is Botify AI free?

It is free to start, with ads and a limited number of free messages, and it is not free to use seriously. Google Play labels the app as containing ads, and the paid plans advertise "Unlimited messages" and "No ads" as what you are buying. The free allowance is set on Ex-Human's servers and not published anywhere. When it runs out, each further message costs energy, which only money buys.

That structure is common in this category, and it is not dishonest in itself. The honest way to judge it is on the yearly price: $79.99 for Ultra is cheap for unlimited messages, while month to month at $239.88 a year is not.

How do you cancel a Botify AI subscription?

Where you bought it. Botify's Terms say you can cancel renewal "either through Your Account settings page or by contacting the Company" at support@botify.ai, and that plans "automatically renew under the exact same conditions" at the end of each period unless you do. A plan bought on Google Play is cancelled in Google Play's subscriptions screen. Deleting the app does not cancel anything.

If you subscribed on an iPhone before March 2026, check your Apple ID subscriptions even though the app is gone; Apple manages store subscriptions separately from the app. Botify's Terms add that you will not receive a refund for the current period, and that a free trial converts into a paid subscription on its last day unless you cancel first.

Can you get a refund from Botify AI?

Generally no. The Terms say "Except when required by law, paid Subscription fees are non-refundable", with refund requests considered "on a case-by-case basis and granted at the sole discretion of the Company." Liability is capped at what you paid, or $100 if you paid nothing.

One point in Botify's favor: its Terms contain no arbitration clause and no class action waiver, and they are governed by California law. Disputes start with an informal complaint to the company, but you keep ordinary access to the courts, which is more than most companion apps leave you.

Who is Botify AI for, and who should skip it?

Botify fits an adult who wants a large catalogue of user-made characters to role-play with, likes generating photos and short videos of them, and will pay yearly on the web. At $79.99 a year for Ultra, unlimited messages are inexpensive.

It is a poor fit for three kinds of buyer. Anyone on an iPhone, because there is no official app. Anyone who chose it because the checkout promised the chats would never be sold, since the signed policy says otherwise. And anyone who wants one partner rather than a catalogue: Botify's home page is a wall of characters, many of them written by other users, and the relationship resets every time you switch.

Is Botify AI worth it?

On the yearly Ultra plan, for heavy role-play on Android or the web, it can be, provided you are comfortable with the data terms. Month to month it is poor value, and for an iPhone user it is not really an option any more.

It is also a different product from what many people are looking for when they search for an AI girlfriend or boyfriend.
