PolyBuzz vs Chai pricing and memory compared with every paid plan annualised
People comparing PolyBuzz and Chai have almost always used both for free and are deciding which one is worth a subscription. They look alike from the outside: a giant library of community made characters, a free tier with ads, and paid plans sold through the app stores. The differences are in what each tier buys, how each company prices the same tier by the week, and what each one admits to Apple about its content. Every price here comes from the two apps' own US in app purchase lists and PolyBuzz's membership page, and every rule from their Terms and store filings.

The short answer
PolyBuzz is the better buy for memory and adult roleplay; Chai is the faster, more restrained app with one fewer currency to manage. On Apple's US store PolyBuzz sells Standard at $9.90, Premium at $19.90 and Ultimate at $29.90 a month, plus a $4.99 weekly plan, and its website sells the same tiers yearly at $99, $199 and $299. Chai sells Premium at $13.99 a month or $134.99 a year and Ultra at $29.99 a month or $19.99 a week, which is $1,039.48 over a year. PolyBuzz declares frequent sexual content to Apple; Chai declares it mild and bans explicit images.
The quick verdict for a buyer: if long memory and fewer content limits are why you would pay, PolyBuzz gives you more of both per dollar, especially on a yearly web plan. If you mostly want quick, fun chats and would rather the app stayed tamer, Chai's Premium does that, but avoid its weekly Ultra plan. If what you are really after is one partner who remembers you instead of a rotating cast, that is a different product, and the demo above is free to try.
What makes them feel real
PolyBuzz vs Chai compared on price, memory and adult content, the way it should feel
More memory per dollar on PolyBuzz
Every paid PolyBuzz tier includes Long Memory and Ultimate adds Permanent Memory; the yearly web plans run $99, $199 and $299. Chai publishes no memory figure for any tier and has no yearly Ultra plan.
The weekly plan trap is worse on Chai
Chai's Ultra at $19.99 a week costs $1,039.48 a year, $679.60 more than the same tier at $29.99 a month. PolyBuzz's weekly Standard plan costs $259.48 a year, against $99 for a web year.
Very different content rules
PolyBuzz declares Frequent/Intense Sexual Content or Nudity to Apple. Chai declares sexual content infrequent and mild, and its license bans sexually explicit images and video of any kind.

Per year figures are arithmetic on the listed prices, because a weekly or monthly plan that renews all year is what your card actually sees. Where a company does not publish a number, the cell says so.

PolyBuzz's yearly prices are sold on polybuzz.ai only; the apps sell weekly and monthly plans. Chai also lists a Premium Membership item at $9.99 on Apple without printing its billing period. PolyBuzz's App Store page returned not found on 15 October 2026, and by 19 October Apple's lookup no longer returned the app in the US, UK, Canada or Australia, so its Apple prices are from the list as captured on 4 October. On iPhone, PolyBuzz is now bought on polybuzz.ai; it is still on Google Play. Store prices can change by region and promotion, so the number on your own checkout screen is the one that counts.
Is PolyBuzz better than Chai?
PolyBuzz is better if you want a character to remember what happened last week and you want fewer content limits. Chai is better if you want snappy, short conversations and an app that stays tamer by design. Both have huge community libraries, both are free to start, and both bill through Apple or Google, so the decision comes down to what the money buys.
On memory, PolyBuzz is the only one of the two that names what you get: Long Memory on every paid tier and Permanent Memory on Ultimate, according to its membership page. Chai's store listing and license publish no memory figure for any tier.
On content, the apps sit at opposite ends of Apple's own scale. PolyBuzz tells Apple its app contains Frequent/Intense Sexual Content or Nudity. Chai tells Apple sexual content is infrequent and mild; its license allows adult oriented roleplay with mature themes, offers optional safety filters, and Section 7.1 bans sexually explicit images or video of any kind. If that is the deciding factor for you, it settles the question before price does.
Which is cheaper, PolyBuzz or Chai?
PolyBuzz, at almost every level. Its entry plan, Poly Standard, is $9.90 a month against $13.99 for Chai Premium. A year of PolyBuzz Standard bought on its website is $99; a year of Chai Premium is $134.99. At the top they converge: Poly Ultimate at $29.90 a month and Chai Ultra at $29.99 a month both come to about $359 a year, but only PolyBuzz sells its top tier yearly, at $299.
The expensive mistake on both apps is the weekly plan, because a month holds about 4.35 weeks, so a weekly price that looks like a quarter of the monthly one is not. Chai's Ultra at $19.99 a week renews to $1,039.48 over twelve months, $679.60 more than paying monthly for the identical tier. PolyBuzz's $4.99 weekly Standard plan renews to $259.48 a year, more than two and a half times the $99 web year.
Both apps also sell a separate currency on top of any subscription: Coins and Opals on PolyBuzz, Pieces on Chai. Neither is required to chat, but both are the way spending creeps past the plan price.
Does PolyBuzz or Chai have better memory?
PolyBuzz, at least on paper, because it is the only one that sells memory as a named feature. Every paid tier includes Long Memory and Ultimate adds Permanent Memory, on top of more models. Its own FAQ is candid that the AI may 'forget' previous conversations over time. Chai does not publish a memory spec for any tier.
No app in this category remembers everything, and character chat apps in particular are built for many short conversations with many characters rather than one long relationship. If one companion remembering your life across months is the actual goal, that is the product we build, and we explain the difference between memory tiers and real long term memory on our AI companion with memory page.
Is PolyBuzz or Chai safer?
Neither runs a real age check for US users, and both share data with advertisers, so the honest answer is that they are safe in the same limited way. PolyBuzz's Terms require third party age verification only in the United Kingdom, under the Online Safety Act; everywhere else it asks for a date of birth. Chai's license says the app is for adults and asks you to confirm an age verification it never performs.
On data, both filed declarations with Google Play that go further than most rivals. PolyBuzz says it shares approximate and precise location with other companies for advertising. Chai says it shares approximate location and the list of apps installed on your phone for the same purpose. If either matters to you, deny location access in your phone's settings before you start.
For an adult paying either one, the more practical risk is what you type. Both store your chats on their servers, and PolyBuzz's privacy policy says some data may stay in backups after you delete your account.
Can you get a refund from PolyBuzz or Chai?
Only through the store you paid in. Both apps sell their subscriptions through Apple and Google, so refund requests go through Apple's report a problem page or Google Play's order history, not to the company. Chai's license does not contain a billing or cancellation section at all, because the store handles that relationship, and PolyBuzz's web plans follow its own Terms.
Deleting either app does not cancel a subscription. Cancel in your Apple ID or Google Play subscriptions screen, and do it at least a day before renewal, especially on a weekly plan.
Who should pick which
Pick PolyBuzz if memory and adult roleplay are the reasons you would pay, and buy the yearly plan on its website rather than the weekly one in the app. Pick Chai if you want quick, light conversations, prefer an app that bans explicit images and keeps things tamer, and are happy with Premium at $134.99 a year.
Pick neither if what you actually want is one partner rather than a library. Both apps are built for variety, and both charge more for memory because memory is not what they are designed around. Amorous is built around a single companion who remembers you and texts first, and the demo at the top of this page is free to try before you pay.
