Kindroid vs Chai pricing and memory compared with every paid plan annualised
People comparing Kindroid and Chai are usually Chai users who have hit the message cap or the paywall and wonder whether a companion app is worth more. They are different products. Kindroid is built around a few characters you create, with long memory, voice and video calls and selfies in the base plan. Chai is a library of user made characters in a phone app, and its subscriptions mostly buy faster replies and more messages.

The short answer
Kindroid is the better buy if you want a few companions who remember you for months; Chai is the better buy if you want quick chats with a huge library of characters and no setup. Kindroid Standard costs $13.99 a month or $139.99 a year on its website, and its free access shrank to a 50 message preview on October 1, 2026. Chai sells Premium at $13.99 a month or $134.99 a year and Ultra at $29.99 a month or $19.99 a week, which renews to $1,039.48 over a year. Kindroid publishes a memory size, Chai publishes none, and neither one refunds you directly.
This page prices both over a full year, then covers what each plan buys, adult content rules, age checks and refunds. Kindroid's figures come from its Help Center, its web checkout and Apple's US in app purchase list. Chai's come from Apple's US purchase list and its license, read in October 2026.
What makes them feel real
Kindroid vs Chai compared on price, memory and adult content, the way it should feel
Kindroid is a companion first
Long memory, up to 10 companions, voice and video calls and selfies all sit in one plan. You pay for a relationship, not a library.
Chai is cheaper to try, dearer to push
Premium Annual at $134.99 is a fair price. Ultra bought weekly at $19.99 renews to $1,039.48 a year, the largest number on either price list.
Neither refunds you directly
Kindroid says all sales are final. Chai bills through Apple and Google, so refunds go through the store. Use the free access first.
Before you pay either one
One sells memory, one sells speed
A year of Kindroid Standard is $139.99 on the web. A year of Chai Ultra paid weekly is $1,039.48. Check which plan your checkout preselects.

Kindroid vs Chai side by side
Per year figures are arithmetic on the published prices, because a weekly or monthly plan that renews all year is what your card actually sees. A month holds about 4.35 weeks, so weekly plans are multiplied by 52.

Kindroid's prices are from its Help Center and Apple's US list in October 2026. Chai's are Premium Subscription Monthly $13.99, Annual $134.99, Ultra Monthly $29.99, Ultra Weekly $19.99 and Ruby Weekly $9.99 on Apple's US list; Apple also lists a Chai Premium Membership item at $9.99 without printing its billing period, so we have not annualised it. Store prices can vary by region and promotion; the number on your own checkout screen is the one that counts.
Is Kindroid better than Chai?
Kindroid is better if what you want is a relationship with a small number of characters who remember you. Memory, voice, video calls and selfies are built into one plan, and Kindroid lets you run up to 10 companions. Chai is better if you want to hop between thousands of user made characters on your phone without configuring anything, and it is still usable for free.
The honest test is how you use it. If you talk to the same person every day, Kindroid. If you want a new scenario every evening, Chai. On adult content they are closer than their reputations: both allow mature text for adults, and the real split is that Chai bans explicit images outright.
Neither is built for the other's job. Chai's paid tiers sell speed, so paying more does not give you a character who remembers more. Kindroid's single plan does the opposite.
Which is cheaper, Kindroid or Chai?
Chai at the bottom, Kindroid once you want anything more. Chai Premium is $13.99 a month or $134.99 a year. Kindroid Standard is $13.99 a month or $139.99 a year on its website, so the entry plans land within $5 of each other over a year.
The gap opens at Chai's top tier. Ultra is $29.99 a month, $359.88 a year, and Chai sells no yearly version. It also sells Ultra by the week at $19.99. Because a month holds about 4.35 weeks, that renews to $1,039.48 over twelve months, $679.60 more than paying monthly for the identical tier. Apple's list also shows Ruby Weekly at $9.99, which is $519.48 a year if nobody cancels it.
On Kindroid, buy on the web: the apps charge $15.99 a month or $159.99 a year. Ultra at $24.99 and MAX at $59.99 are add-ons that bill monthly, so the full stack can reach $98.97 a month. Skip them until you know you are short of memory.
Does Kindroid or Chai have better memory?
Kindroid, because it is the only one that says how much it remembers. Kindroid Standard carries about 790K characters of context and recalls three memories per reply, using what it calls Cascaded Memory. Chai's store listing and license publish no memory figure for any plan, so there is nothing to compare against.
That matters if you are paying for continuity. A Chai subscription is priced on speed and message volume. If you want a character who still knows your job, your sister's name and last week's argument, the plan that names its memory is the one to read first.
Does Chai allow NSFW like Kindroid?
Less. Chai's license allows adult oriented roleplay with mature themes and offers optional safety filters, but Section 7.1 bans sexually explicit images or video of any kind. Chai tells Apple its sexual content is infrequent and mild and its mature themes are frequent and intense, which is a fair summary: flirtatious and dark in text, never graphic in pictures.
Kindroid allows adult content for adults through a mature content setting. If explicit roleplay is the whole reason you are paying, Kindroid is the more permissive of the two. If you would rather the app kept a lid on things, Chai does that by design.
Are Kindroid and Chai safe, and do they check your age?
Neither runs a hard age check on US adults. Kindroid treats your payment on file as proof of age and asks for a Yoti selfie only if an account is flagged. Chai takes a self reported age and runs no check.
On data they differ. Kindroid's Google Play declaration says it shares no data with other companies. Chai's says it shares approximate location and the list of apps installed on your phone with other companies for advertising. If that matters to you, it is the strongest reason on this page to pick Kindroid. Our longer reads on whether Chai is safe and on Kindroid's age verification go through each document line by line.
Can you get a refund from Kindroid or Chai?
Not easily from either. Kindroid says all sales are final and may ban users who dispute a charge. Chai sells subscriptions as Apple and Google in app purchases, so refund requests go through Apple's report a problem page or Google Play's order history; Chai's license has no billing section at all.
Deleting either app cancels nothing. Cancel in iPhone Settings under your name and Subscriptions, or in Google Play under Payments and subscriptions, at least a day before renewal. That matters most on Chai's weekly plans, where forgetting for a month costs four charges instead of one.
Who should pay for which
Pay for Kindroid if one or a few characters who remember you is the point, you want voice calls, and you are comfortable that all sales are final. Take the yearly plan on the web at $139.99 once the preview has convinced you.
Pay for Chai if you want an easy phone app with nothing to set up and would rather it stayed tamer. Premium Annual at $134.99 is the sensible plan. Avoid Ultra by the week, and check that Ruby Weekly has not been added to your subscriptions by accident.
If you want exactly one partner, with no metering and a refund path, Amorous is one AI girlfriend or boyfriend built around long term memory, at $12 month to month or $9 a month billed yearly. The demo at the top of this page is the same companion you would be paying for.
