How much does a Janitor AI subscription cost?

janitor+ costs $12.99 a month. Janitor announced it on 24 June 2026 as the platform's first ever subscription product, and that post is the only first party price we can point at. There is no annual plan mentioned in the announcement, so monthly is the only billing option we can confirm.

That figure matters because it is not the one you will usually be shown. A large number of review pages, pricing aggregators and AI tool directories list Janitor AI at $9.99 a month for a tier called Pro. We could not find that price or that product name in any Janitor announcement, and it contradicts the company's own launch post. If you have been budgeting $9.99, budget $12.99 instead.

Is Janitor AI free?

Yes, and Janitor went out of its way to say it stays that way. The launch post for janitor+ said plainly that the version of Janitor you already use stays exactly the same and stays completely free, and framed the subscription as extra capacity rather than a paywall dropped over existing features.

That is worth crediting, because the opposite pattern is normal in this category. Janitor's own words were that too many subscriptions are about making things worse and imposing harsh limits, then charging you to get around them, and that janitor+ is not that. On the free tier you keep the character library, character creation and chat. What you do not get is the larger context window, priority during busy periods or the frontier model swipes.

What do you get with janitor+?

Four things, per the announcement: five times more context so chats hold memory longer, unlimited priority messages so responses stay fast when the platform is busy, a monthly allowance of swipes on frontier models for noticeably better regenerations, and a janitor+ badge on your profile.

Read that list carefully, because three of the four are about capacity rather than capability. You are buying a longer memory window and a shorter queue, not a fundamentally different companion. Janitor said as much itself, describing the price as set to hopefully break even against GPU costs. For someone who chats for hours a day and keeps hitting context limits, more context is the single most valuable thing on that list. For someone who logs in twice a week, it is $12.99 for a badge and a shorter wait.

Does Janitor AI cost money to use with better models?

This is where the real bill lives. For most of Janitor's life, using a stronger model meant setting up a proxy: you took an API key from OpenAI or OpenRouter, pasted it into Janitor's API settings and paid that provider directly for every token. Janitor never saw that money and never capped it.

On 30 July 2026 Janitor launched janitor+ Router, which folds that arrangement inside the site. Router gives you premium third party models with no external key or proxy config, per token prices shown before you chat, a built in wallet, and a 10 percent discount for subscribers on some popular models. New subscribers also got $5 in launch credits. Router is subscribers only and was web only at launch.

So the honest answer to what Janitor AI costs is a floor plus a variable. The floor is $0 or $12.99. The variable is whatever your model usage burns, whether that runs through Router's wallet or your own provider account. If you want a single number you can plan around, this is the structural reason Janitor cannot give you one.

Is janitor+ worth it?

It is worth it if you are hitting the context ceiling and the queue, and it is poor value if you are not. Those are genuinely the two things it fixes. A heavy roleplayer running long chats will feel five times the context immediately, because the failure mode it removes, a companion quietly forgetting the last hour, is the most annoying thing these products do.

Be clear about what $12.99 does not buy. It does not buy a private companion, it does not remove the need to think about which model you are talking to, and it does not put a ceiling on your spending, because Router sits on top of it. Compared against a flat priced companion app at roughly $9 to $16 a month with nothing metered, janitor+ is competitive on the headline and open ended underneath. Which of those two shapes suits you depends on whether you would rather tune a setup or just have it work.

How do I cancel a Janitor AI subscription?

Cancel it wherever you bought it, which is the part that catches people out. Janitor's launch post noted that iOS and Android users had to update the app to access janitor+ at all, so a mobile subscription is an in app purchase and cancels through your Apple or Google account subscription settings, not inside Janitor. If you subscribed on the web, cancel in your account settings on the site.

Deleting the app cancels nothing. Neither does signing out or abandoning the account. Check the renewal date before you cancel, because these plans normally run to the end of the period you already paid for, so cancelling early costs you nothing while cancelling a day late costs a full month. Worth knowing separately: Janitor added a 30 day restore window on account deletion in August 2026, so deleting your account is no longer instant and irreversible.

The two products are solving different problems, so compare them on shape rather than on the headline number.
