Is Kindroid free?

No, not anymore. Kindroid retired its free Lite tier on October 1, 2026, as its update log announced on August 18. New accounts get 50 messages on the full model, two Kindroid slots and a few selfies, and then the account goes read only until you start the three day trial or subscribe. Character.AI is still free indefinitely, which is the single biggest reason people try it first.

Is Kindroid safer than Character AI?

Character.AI runs age assurance on every account and asks for a selfie through its identity partner, Persona, only when it suspects a user is under 18; its help center says Persona deletes the selfie or ID within 7 days. Rarely from Kindroid. Its Terms say fees already paid are not refunded, and its in app purchases page says plainly that refunds are not available for in app purchases. If you subscribed through Apple or Google, the store's own refund request is your only route. Character.AI also sends app subscribers to Apple or Google, and handles web subscriptions through a support request.
