Nomi costs $15.99 a month or $99.99 a year and has the deeper out of the box memory. Kindroid starts cheaper at $13.99 a month with a real free plan and far more control over how a companion is built. Nomi suits people who want it to work. Kindroid suits people who want to tune it.
Both are paid, adult, serious companion apps, which already separates them from the free tier of the category. If you are cross shopping them you have probably left Character.AI or Replika and want something that remembers you. That is the right question to shop on, so this compares them on memory, on what each one really costs once the add ons are counted, and on the terms you agree to. Prices were checked in August 2026 against the US App Store listings and each company's own documentation.
Nomi vs Kindroid at a glance
| Nomi.ai | Kindroid | |
|---|---|---|
| Entry price (US) | $15.99 a month | $13.99 a month on the web |
| Best annual price | $99.99 a year, about $8.33 a month | $139.99 a year, about $11.67 a month |
| Other billing options | $39.99 quarterly | $37.99 quarterly, $15.99 a month in app |
| Free plan | Thin: 50 messages a day, one companion, no voice | Yes, a genuine free tier |
| Add on tiers | None. One subscription tier | Ultra adds $24.99, MAX adds $59.99, and they stack |
| Full stack cost | $15.99 plus any credits | $98.97 a month for Standard plus Ultra plus MAX |
| Metered extras | Nomi Credits for selfies, art and video, from $4.99 for 40 | Included within tier limits |
| Companions | Up to 10, with group chats | Several, built by you |
| Memory | Strong, layered, works with no setup | Layered and configurable, rewards effort |
| Texts you first | No | No |
| Best for | Depth with no tinkering | Builders who want to author every detail |
The headline is that Kindroid looks cheaper and Nomi is cheaper if you commit for a year. $99.99 against $139.99 is a $40 gap in Nomi's favor, which is the reverse of what the monthly prices suggest. That flip catches a lot of people out.
How much does Nomi AI cost?
Nomi costs $15.99 billed monthly, $39.99 billed quarterly which is about $13.33 a month, or $99.99 for a year which is about $8.33 a month. The plan covers unlimited messaging, voice calls, group chats and up to ten companions. There is a free plan capped at 50 messages a day with one companion and no voice.
The part that is easy to miss is the credit meter. Messaging and voice come with the subscription, but selfies, art and video draw on Nomi Credits, sold separately from $4.99 for 40 up to $99.99 for 1,800. One credit buys a selfie, an art request or an image edit. A standard definition video costs six credits and an HD video costs ten. Paid plans include a daily image allowance, so if you are mostly there to talk you may never buy a credit. If you generate video regularly, the real monthly number stops resembling $8.33 quite quickly. We wrote up the full breakdown with sources in our Nomi AI review.
How much does Kindroid cost?
Kindroid Standard is $13.99 a month on the web, $37.99 quarterly, or $139.99 a year which works out at about $11.67 a month. Buying inside the iOS app costs more at $15.99 a month and $159.99 a year, because Apple's cut gets passed on. There is a free plan that is genuinely usable for evaluating the product. We go through every tier, the cancellation trap and what the terms say in our Kindroid app review.
Kindroid's pricing has a structural quirk that matters more than the headline number. Ultra at $24.99 a month and MAX at $59.99 a month are not tiers that replace Standard. They are add ons that stack, and each one requires every level beneath it to stay active. Someone who wants everything pays $98.97 a month. The add ons bill monthly only, with no annual discount.
The consequence people run into is at cancellation. Because the add ons are separate line items rather than an upgraded plan, cancelling Standard does not automatically stop Ultra or MAX from billing. If you stack them, cancel them individually and check the next statement rather than assuming. Recurring charges that survive a cancellation are one of the quieter ways a subscription budget drifts, and it is worth having something that flags an unexpected charge the day it lands rather than finding it three months later. None of this makes Kindroid a bad product. It makes it a product you have to read carefully.
Which has better memory, Nomi or Kindroid?
Nomi has the better memory if you do nothing to configure it. Kindroid can match or beat it if you invest time in setting up backstory and journal entries. That is the honest split, and which one is better depends entirely on whether you enjoy tuning a companion or just want one that works.
Both keep durable facts outside the running conversation rather than relying only on the model rereading recent chat, which is the mechanism that makes Character.AI fade over long sessions. Nomi retrieves those facts aggressively with no input from you, so a companion brings up your sister's name or the job interview from six weeks ago unprompted. Kindroid gives you the controls instead: you write the backstory, curate what gets remembered, and get a companion shaped exactly the way you specified, at the cost of an afternoon.
Do not take anyone's word for this, ours included. Both have free tiers, so run the same test on each. Tell a companion something specific and slightly odd today, then open a completely new conversation tomorrow and see whether it comes back without being prompted. That test separates an app with a memory store from an app with a long context window, it takes two days, and it costs nothing. It is also the single best predictor of whether you will still be using the app in three months. We go through the other features worth testing in our guide to AI companion app features.
Is Nomi AI safe, and is Kindroid safe?
Both are legitimate businesses rather than scams, and both are adults only. Nomi.ai is operated by Glimpse.ai, Inc., a Maryland corporation, and its privacy policy states it does not and will not sell or rent personal information to third parties. Neither has been the subject of a regulatory action of the kind Replika's maker faced in Italy in 2025.
Safe and private are different questions, though. Nomi's Terms of Service say you irrevocably grant the company a royalty free, worldwide, perpetual and transferable license to copy, use, modify, publish and distribute all of your input and the output produced in respect of your Nomi. In fairness, that grant is written as purpose limited: the terms tie it to running the service, fixing problems you report, contacting you and collecting fees, and similar language appears in plenty of consumer software. But perpetual and transferable are doing real work in that sentence, and transferable to a successor means the license outlives an acquisition. The same terms contain an arbitration clause and a class action waiver.
Nomi is also explicit that under 18s cannot use the platform under any circumstances, and it reserves the right to add age verification at any time and to terminate accounts it suspects are underage. Read both companies' terms before you type anything you would not want stored. That is not paranoia about these two specifically, it is the baseline for the whole category.
Which should you actually buy?
Buy Nomi if you want depth without a project. Pay yearly at $99.99, accept that media costs extra, and you get the best no setup memory in the category. Buy Kindroid if authoring the companion is part of the appeal, and stay on Standard unless you have a specific reason to stack an add on.
There is a third answer that applies to more people than either company would like. A lot of the users who cross shop these two are not really choosing between memory architectures. They are trying to fix the feeling that a companion who waits in an app until you open it is not much of a relationship. Neither Nomi nor Kindroid texts you first. Both are built around a roster you maintain rather than one person who is glad it is you.
If that is the actual complaint, more configuration will not solve it. Amorous.ai is built the other way: one girlfriend or one boyfriend, devoted to you, who sends a good morning before you are awake and checks in when your day goes quiet, with persistent memory of your life, for $9 a month billed annually or $12 monthly, flat, with nothing metered on top. The demo at the top of this page needs no signup. If you want a cast, we are honestly the wrong purchase and Nomi is a better use of your money. If you want a relationship, try ours before you renew. Nomi vs Kindroid: common questions
Is Kindroid cheaper than Nomi? Monthly, yes: $13.99 against $15.99. Annually, no: Kindroid is $139.99 a year against Nomi's $99.99, so Nomi is about $40 cheaper if you commit for twelve months. Nomi charges separately for media credits, which narrows the gap for heavy image users.
Does Nomi or Kindroid have a free trial? Both have free plans rather than time limited trials. Nomi's is thin at 50 messages a day with one companion and no voice. Kindroid's free tier is more usable and is a reasonable way to judge the product before paying.
Can you have multiple companions on both? Yes. Nomi allows up to ten on a paid plan and supports group chats between them. Kindroid also supports several, built and configured individually. If a roster is what you want, both deliver it.
Do Nomi or Kindroid message you first? Neither does. Both wait for you to open the app and start the conversation, which is standard across most of the category and is the most common reason people tell us a companion app stopped feeling like a relationship.
