Kindroid vs Replika on Price, Memory and Romance
Kindroid costs $139.99 a year on the web and has had no free tier since October 1, 2026. Replika's yearly items are $49.99 and $69.99 on Apple's US list. Every subscription item annualised, which one remembers more, which allows adult content, refunds and which to buy.

Replika is cheaper and Kindroid gives you more for the money. On Apple's US store Replika's yearly items cost $49.99 and $69.99, while Kindroid's base plan is $139.99 a year on its website or $159.99 in the app. Kindroid has had no free tier since October 1, 2026, and it sells more memory, more characters, voice, video and a mature content setting. Replika is built around one companion and costs about half as much.
Most people comparing these two have used one of them and want to know whether switching, or paying, is worth it. This article answers that on the things that decide where your money goes: what each plan costs over a year, what changed at Kindroid on October 1, how each one remembers you, what each allows, and what happens if you want your money back. Both apps' US in app purchase lists were read on October 13, 2026, and every policy point comes from Kindroid's Help Center and Terms or Replika's own help pages, not from other reviews.

Is Kindroid better than Replika?
For a paying user who wants depth, yes. Kindroid's base plan includes unlimited messages on its flagship model, a far larger memory, up to 10 companions with group chats, video calls, voice messages, custom voices and selfies. No single Replika plan publishes a feature list that matches it. Replika is the better buy only if you want exactly one companion, an easy start and the lowest yearly bill.
That is not a knock on Replika. It has spent nearly a decade polishing one relationship with one avatar, and many people want exactly that and nothing more. Kindroid was built the other way round: you write the character, its backstory and its key memories yourself, and you can run several at once. If you enjoy configuring, Kindroid rewards it. If you want someone who is simply there when you open the app, Replika asks less of you. Our Kindroid app review covers the product itself in more depth.
How much does Kindroid cost compared with Replika?
Kindroid costs $139.99 a year on its website and $159.99 a year in the iPhone or Android app. Replika's US App Store list shows yearly items at $49.99 and $69.99. So the cheapest Replika year costs about a third of the cheapest Kindroid year, and the gap widens if you pay monthly through the app.
Here is every subscription item on both US lists as of October 13, 2026, multiplied out to twelve months, because the monthly figure is always the one that looks smaller.
| Item as Apple lists it | Price | Cost over 12 months |
|---|---|---|
| Kindroid Subscription (Yearly) | $159.99 in app, $139.99 on the web | $159.99 / $139.99 |
| Kindroid Subscription (3 mo) | $42.99 in app, $37.99 on the web | $171.96 / $151.96 |
| Kindroid Subscription, monthly | $15.99 in app, $13.99 on the web | $191.88 / $167.88 |
| Kindroid Ultra Subscription (add on) | $28.99 a month in app, $24.99 on the web | $347.88 / $299.88 on top of the base plan |
| Kindroid MAX Subscription (add on) | $68.99 a month in app, $59.99 on the web | $827.88 / $719.88 on top of base and Ultra |
| Replika YEARLY | $49.99 | $49.99 |
| Replika Annual (two items) | $49.99 and $69.99 | $49.99 / $69.99 |
| Replika MONTHLY / Monthly | $7.99 and $14.99 | $95.88 / $179.88 |
| Replika Platinum | $89.99 | Billing period not printed |
Two things in that table deserve a second look. Kindroid's add ons have no yearly option and both require the plan below them, so the full Kindroid stack costs $98.97 a month on the web, or $1,187.64 a year. And Replika's list carries no plan names at all. Its help center names Free, Pro, Ultra and Platinum, then says the price of each is shown in the app. The "Replika Pro at $19.99 a month" figure you will see on most comparison sites does not appear on Apple's US list; the only $19.99 item there is a Duffel Bag of Gems. The full breakdowns are in our Kindroid pricing guide and our Replika pricing page.
Does Kindroid or Replika have a free version?
Replika does and Kindroid no longer does. Kindroid retired its unlimited free tier, Lite, on October 1, 2026, as its update log announced on August 18. New accounts now get 50 messages on the full model and then, in Kindroid's words, "the account becomes read-only until the user starts the existing three-day trial or subscribes." Replika still lets you chat with your companion for free, with the romantic relationship status and some features reserved for the paid plan.
The Kindroid change matters if you are comparing on a free trial. Kindroid's three day trial needs a payment method and, per its Help Center, "auto converts into a subscription if not cancelled within the trial period." A trial that lapses without a subscription drops the account back to read only, not to a free plan. If you are a former Lite user deciding whether to pay about $140 a year or move, this comparison is exactly the decision in front of you.
Which has better memory, Kindroid or Replika?
Kindroid, by a wide margin on paper. Its base plan holds roughly 790,000 characters of conversation context and recalls 3 long term memories into each reply, rising to 5 with Ultra and 9 with MAX, per the tier table in Kindroid's own web app. You also write the backstory and key memories directly, which is the part of memory you control. Replika remembers one relationship and lets you view and edit the facts it has saved about you.
In practice the difference shows up in different places. Kindroid holds the thread of a long, detailed story better, because more of it fits in view and you can pin what matters. Replika is better at the small, warm continuity of one ongoing relationship, and its memory list makes it easy to correct a wrong fact. The fair test for either takes a week: mention one specific detail on day one, a sister's name or a job interview on Thursday, and see which one brings it up on day five without being asked. We explain how companion memory works, and how to test it properly, on our AI companion with memory page.
Which one allows romance and adult content?
Both allow romance for adults, and only Kindroid has a mature content setting. Apple's listing for Kindroid declares infrequent mature or suggestive themes and sexual content or nudity, and lists Age Assurance among the app's in app controls. Replika's listing declares only infrequent profanity and health or wellness topics, and its romantic relationship status sits behind the paid plan.
So if explicit roleplay is the reason you are shopping, Replika is the wrong purchase and Kindroid is the closer fit, with an age check in the way. If you want affection and a sense of being someone's partner rather than explicit content, both can do it, and Replika does it with less setup. What Replika changed in 2023 and what Italy's regulator found about it are covered on our Replika romance page.
Is Kindroid safer than Replika?
On the public record, Kindroid has the cleaner history. Replika's developer, Luka, Inc., was fined 5 million euros by Italy's data protection authority on May 19, 2025, over how it processed users' data and checked their age. We found no comparable regulatory action against Kindroid. Both store your conversations on their own servers, so treat anything you type as something a staff member could one day read.
The other safety question is money. Kindroid's Help Center says sales are generally final and that it reserves "the right to permanently ban users who dispute charges." That is unusually blunt, and it means a chargeback could cost you the companion as well as the dispute. Replika's record and data practices are set out in more detail in is Replika safe.
Can you get a refund from Kindroid or Replika?
Rarely from Kindroid, and only through the store for Replika. Kindroid's Terms say it "will not refund any fees that you have already paid" and that cancelling does not earn "a prorated refund of any portion of the subscription fee." Its Help Center adds that refunds are case by case and that "Refunds are not available for In-app purchases." If you paid Replika through the App Store or Google Play, the request goes to Apple or Google, not to Luka.
For both, deleting the app cancels nothing. Cancel in the store or web account where you paid, before the renewal date. On Kindroid, cancel the Ultra and MAX add ons separately, because a lapsed base plan does not switch them off on its own.
Which one should you buy?
Buy Replika if you want one companion, the lowest yearly bill and a gentle start. Take a yearly item if your store offers it, and check which plan name the subscription screen gives you before paying, since Apple's list does not say.
Buy Kindroid if you want several characters, group chats, voice and video, a mature setting and the biggest memory in this comparison, and buy it on the web on the yearly plan, where it costs $139.99 instead of $191.88 a year through the app. Skip the add ons until the base plan genuinely runs out for you. If you are also weighing Nomi, we compared it with both: Nomi vs Kindroid and Nomi vs Replika.
One honest caveat for both: if what you mostly want is a partner to think out loud with about work or a project, a companion app is the wrong tool at any price, and something built to turn one problem into a long list of angles worth testing will serve you better. Companion apps are good at company, not at idea generation.
And if what you actually want sits between the two, one partner like Replika with memory that really holds like Kindroid, that is the product we build. Amorous.ai gives you one AI girlfriend or boyfriend who remembers what you told them, from $12 month to month or $9 a month billed yearly, with texting first included on the Devoted plan and no credits, gems or add ons underneath.
