Is Tipsy Chat Safe? What the Tipsy Chat App Charges and Shares
Tipsy Chat is a real app from a Singapore company, but its privacy policy promises end-to-end encryption while sending chats to five AI providers and using them for training. Standard is $14.90 a month, gems run up to $199, and refunds are rare. Every fact from its own documents and store listings.

Tipsy Chat is a real, working app from a registered Singapore company, and for an adult who keeps personal details out of the chat it is safe to pay for in the ordinary sense: your card goes through Apple, Google or a named payment processor. The risks are in its own paperwork. The privacy policy promises end-to-end encryption that "not even people from Tipsy Chat" can read through, then says the same chats train its AI models and go to five outside AI providers. And the real cost is gems, not the subscription.
Everything below comes from first-party sources checked on September 29, 2026: Tipsy Chat's Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Community Guidelines, FAQ and About page, the US App Store listing with its in-app purchase list and privacy label, and the Google Play listing and data safety form. Most pages ranking for this question are virus-scanner scores and parental guides. This one is for the adult deciding whether to put a card in.
Is Tipsy Chat safe to use?
For an adult, yes in the sense that matters for your wallet: it is not a scam, it delivers the chats it sells, and purchases run through the App Store, Google Play or a disclosed merchant of record. It is not private, whatever its FAQ box says. Your messages can be read by the company, used to train models and processed by Google, Amazon Web Services, xAI, OpenAI and ElevenLabs. Treat it as a paid entertainment app, not a diary.
The iPhone app ("Tipsy Chat: Your AI Tavern", id 6572296119) has 10,652 US ratings averaging 4.58, was released on August 15, 2024, and shipped version 1.4.9 on September 24, 2026, so it is actively maintained. Apple carries a "Sexual Content and Nudity" advisory on it. None of that is a red flag. The questions worth your time are who you are contracting with, what the gems cost, and what happens to what you type.
Who owns Tipsy Chat?
Tipsy Chat is run by LIGHTSPEED INTELLIGENCE PTE. LTD., a Singapore company, which is also the seller of record on the US App Store. The documents bring in two more companies: Waffo.com Limited in Hong Kong, described as an "authorized distributor", and LUMIEN COMPANY LIMITED in the UK, the merchant of record for payments on the website. If you pay on the web, the charge on your statement will not say Tipsy.
Two details are worth knowing before you rely on the paperwork. The Terms and Privacy Policy give one Singapore address (Kaki Bukit Avenue 4) while the About page gives another (Serangoon Road). And the Android app (package com.tipsyturbo.app, over a million downloads) is published under a Google Play developer account registered to an individual in Dallas, Texas, not to Lightspeed, although it uses Tipsy Chat's own terms and support address. That is probably a publishing arrangement rather than a clone, but it means the Android listing's developer name tells you nothing about who holds your data.
How much does Tipsy Chat cost?
Tipsy Chat sells two subscriptions on the US App Store, Get a Taste at $4.90 and Standard at $14.90, plus gem packs from $1.49 to $199. Apple does not print the billing period next to either plan, but the FAQ says subscription gems are issued "once a month", so both are almost certainly monthly. That puts Get a Taste at $58.80 a year and Standard at $178.80 a year before any gems.
| Item (US App Store) | Price | Cost over 12 months or per gem |
|---|---|---|
| Get a Taste subscription | $4.90 | $58.80 a year if monthly |
| Standard subscription | $14.90 | $178.80 a year if monthly |
| 500 gems (first purchase only) | $1.49 | $0.0030 a gem |
| 1,000 gems | $5.90 | $0.0059 a gem |
| 6,700 gems | $29.99 | $0.0045 a gem |
| 8,000 gems | $38.90 | $0.0049 a gem |
| 50,000 gems | $199.00 | $0.0040 a gem |
The site's tier ladder also names Premium and Deluxe, whose prices sit behind a login and are not on Apple's public list, so we have not quoted them. Note the pack pricing is not monotonic: 6,700 gems for $29.99 is cheaper per gem than 8,000 for $38.90, so the bigger pack is the worse deal. The Terms add that prices can change "at any time".
How much does a Tipsy Chat message cost in gems?
It depends on the model, the length of the chat, the memory setting and the length of the reply, and Tipsy Chat does not publish a fixed rate. Its own worked example is a 24 gem message, which is about 14 cents at the 1,000 gem pack price. A long evening of roleplay on a premium model can run to hundreds of messages, so the meter, not the $14.90 subscription, is what decides your real monthly bill.
One more catch: the "blue" gems that come with a subscription do not carry over to the next month. Unused allowance expires, while purchased gems stay. If you find yourself topping up every week, add those packs to the annual figure above before you decide it is cheap. We walk through how metered billing compares with flat pricing across the category in our AI girlfriend cost guide.
Is Tipsy Chat private?
No, and its own privacy policy contradicts itself on this. An FAQ box inside the policy says: "Your chat history and account are encrypted. We use end-to-end encryption to keep your personal chats between you and the characters you choose. Not even people from Tipsy Chat can see or read them, unless you choose to share them publicly." The same policy says chats are used "to train our artificial intelligence/machine learning models" and lists Google, Amazon Web Services, xAI, OpenAI and ElevenLabs as processors of text, images and voice.
The Terms go further: Tipsy Chat "may access, review, screen, edit, modify and delete your Content at any time and for any reason". A message that is sent to five AI providers and reviewed by the company is not end-to-end encrypted in any meaning of the phrase. No opt out from training is described. The policy also collects voice recordings, images, the advertising identifier (IDFA) and location derived from your IP address.
The store disclosures leave the chats out entirely. Apple's privacy label lists contact info, email, analytics and crash data. Google Play's data safety form says "No data collected" while also saying the app shares identifiers and email with third parties. A company that publishes three different accounts of the same data flows has not mapped them, and the operators who take this seriously use software to track every obligation against the control meant to satisfy it. The practical rule for you is simple: keep your name, workplace, city and photos of yourself out of the chat. Our best AI companion app for privacy guide compares the whole category on these points.
Does Tipsy Chat allow NSFW content?
In practice yes, on paper no. The Terms and Community Guidelines ban content that "is obscene or pornographic". Yet the same Terms state that the site "complies with the record-keeping and reporting requirements of 18 U.S.C. §2257", the US law that applies to sexually explicit material, the site labels characters NSFW or SFW, it offers a "Limitless" switch, and Apple rates the app for sexual content and nudity. Expect the rules to be enforced unevenly, and expect a moderation decision you disagree with to be hard to appeal.
Age checks are light. You confirm you are 18 or over by picking an age range; no ID or face check appears anywhere in the documents. If you have already been asked to upload an ID elsewhere and want to know which apps still skip it, see our list of the best AI companion apps without ID verification.
Can I get a refund from Tipsy Chat?
Rarely, and not from Tipsy Chat itself for most purchases. The Terms say "you are not entitled to any refund for a completed purchase without due reason", and invite you to email support if you think you have one. The FAQ is blunter: "Tipsy can only assist and cannot make the final decision". On iPhone, Apple decides. On Android, Google Play offers self-service refunds within 48 hours of purchase, after which you contact support.
Disputes go to binding arbitration with the American Arbitration Association's international centre, in Santa Clara County, California, with a class action waiver, and each side pays its own lawyers. Liability is capped at the greater of $100 or what you paid. If you subscribe, cancel in the store you bought from; deleting the app does not stop the renewal.
How do I delete my Tipsy Chat account?
Deletion is available in the app and, according to the policy, takes effect immediately, which is better than many competitors. The exception is public characters you created: popular public characters can be kept after your account is gone. If you built characters you would not want to outlive your account, set them to private or delete them first, then delete the account, then cancel the subscription in the App Store or Google Play.
Is Tipsy Chat worth paying for?
It is worth paying for if you want a large library of user-made roleplay characters, you enjoy switching between them, and you are comfortable budgeting gems on top of a subscription. Start on Get a Taste, watch your gem balance for a week, and only then decide whether Standard plus packs is worth $178.80 a year or more to you.
It is the wrong purchase if what you actually want is one partner who remembers your life, because a roster of characters on a per-message meter is built for variety, not continuity. That is the gap Amorous.ai fills: one devoted girlfriend or boyfriend with long-term memory and nothing metered, on flat plans from $9 a month billed yearly (see plans and pricing). You can try it in the chat above before creating an account.
