Grok Pricing: Grok Subscription and SuperGrok Price 2026
Grok has four consumer prices in August 2026, and the companion feature that justified the $30 tier for a lot of people is being retired. What each plan costs, which numbers are actually verifiable, and how to cancel without paying for months you did not use.

Grok has four consumer prices in August 2026: free, SuperGrok Lite at $10 a month, SuperGrok at $30 a month, and SuperGrok Heavy at $300 a month. Companion features, including Ani, sat behind a paid plan rather than the free tier, in practice SuperGrok at $30. Grok access is also bundled into X subscriptions, at roughly $8 a month for X Premium and roughly $40 for X Premium+, which costs more than standalone SuperGrok while giving you less Grok.
The number that matters more than any of those is what changed underneath them. On 24 July 2026 xAI said the 3D avatar Companions, Ani, Valentine, Mika and Rudi, were an experiment it is retiring to focus on core Grok. If the companion was your reason for the $30, you are now paying assistant prices for a feature with an announced end and no published date. Everything below is sourced, and every number was cross checked against at least two independent write ups because xAI's own plans page is behind a bot challenge and cannot be quoted directly.
How much is Grok per month?
Between $0 and $300, depending on how much model capacity you want. The free tier gives limited Grok access on the web and in the app. SuperGrok Lite at $10 a month raises those limits. SuperGrok at $30 is the mainstream paid plan and the one that unlocked companions. SuperGrok Heavy at $300 a month is aimed at heavy research and agentic use rather than anything a companion user needs.
| Plan | US price | What it is for | Source confidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Limited Grok on web and mobile | High, four sources agree |
| SuperGrok Lite | $10 a month | Higher limits, standalone | Medium, two sources agree |
| SuperGrok | $30 a month | The mainstream paid plan. Unlocked companions | High, four sources agree |
| SuperGrok Heavy | $300 a month | Heaviest research and agent use | High, four sources agree |
| X Premium | About $8 a month | X features, Grok as a secondary benefit | Medium, two sources agree |
| X Premium+ | About $40 a month | X features with more Grok, still less than SuperGrok | Medium, two sources agree |
| SuperGrok annual | Reported around $300 a year | Annual billing on the $30 tier | Low. Both sources hedge it. Confirm before you buy |
A note on that last row, because it is the one people get wrong. Two separate pricing round ups list an annual SuperGrok option at roughly $300 a year and both of them hedge, telling you to confirm on the plans page. We could not verify it on a first party source, so treat it as unconfirmed rather than a deal. The same applies to a promotion putting SuperGrok Heavy at $99 for the first three months, which only one source describes.
What is the SuperGrok price, and what does it actually include?
Thirty dollars a month. For that you get the highest ordinary usage limits on Grok's models, image and video generation, voice mode, memory, projects, and until recently the companion characters. It is a full assistant subscription, which is exactly why it is priced like one and why it is poor value if you only wanted one feature from it.
Compare it against the alternatives on a per purpose basis rather than a per dollar basis. Against ChatGPT Plus at $20 a month, SuperGrok is more expensive and buys a broadly comparable general assistant. Against a dedicated AI companion app at roughly $9 to $16 a month, SuperGrok is roughly double and buys a companion feature that its own vendor has now called an experiment. We put the whole category side by side on our AI companion app pricing page if you want the row by row version.
Is SuperGrok still worth it now that companions are retiring?
If you use Grok as a general assistant, yes, nothing about the announcement changes that. Research, writing, code and image generation are unaffected, and xAI framed the retirement as a redirection of effort toward core Grok with stronger memory and more reliable long conversations. You are still getting what you paid for.
If you subscribed for Ani specifically, the answer is no, and it is not close. You are paying $30 a month for an animated avatar the company has publicly said it is removing, with no date attached, on a rollout that has already reached some accounts. Buying more months of that is buying a countdown you cannot see. We went through what stays on your account, what disappears, and the honest options in our guide to Grok Ani alternatives.
Worth adding: this is the second time in three years the companion market has taught the same lesson. Soulmate AI shut down in 2023 with about a week of notice, and people lost relationships they had spent months building. Grok is not shutting down and the comparison is not exact, but the shape is familiar enough to be worth reading before you commit to any of these products. We wrote about the pattern in what happens when an AI companion app shuts down.
What does the free Grok plan include?
Enough to evaluate it, not enough to live in. Free accounts get Grok on the web and in the app with capped usage that resets on a rolling window, access to a reduced set of capabilities, and no companion features. The cap is the binding constraint: ordinary conversational use hits it quickly, and heavy use hits it within an afternoon.
If you are testing Grok specifically to decide whether to replace a paid companion subscription, the free tier will not answer the question, because the thing you are evaluating is not on it. That is a reasonable argument for taking the seven day SuperGrok trial that at least one pricing round up describes, on the condition that you diary the cancellation date the moment you start it.
How do I cancel a Grok subscription?
Wherever you bought it, which is the part that traps people. If you subscribed through the iOS or Android app, the charge is an in app purchase and it must be cancelled in your Apple or Google account subscription settings. Deleting the Grok app does not cancel anything and neither does signing out. If you subscribed on the web, cancel in your account settings on the site you paid on. If Grok came bundled with X Premium, the subscription you need to cancel is the X one.
The reason this matters more than it sounds is that a store billed subscription keeps renewing silently long after someone has stopped opening the app, and a feature being retired is exactly the moment people stop opening the app. It is worth having something that tells you the day a recurring charge lands rather than finding four months of it on a statement in December. Check the renewal date before you cancel, too. Most of these plans run to the end of the period you already paid for, so cancelling early costs you nothing but cancelling late costs you a month.
Grok pricing against a dedicated companion app
The two products are priced differently because they are trying to do different jobs, and the fair way to compare them is by what you are actually buying rather than by the headline number.
| What you are paying for | SuperGrok at $30 a month | A dedicated companion app |
|---|---|---|
| General assistant work | Yes, and it is genuinely good at it | No, and it is not trying to be |
| A companion feature | Announced as retiring, no date given | The entire product, so it cannot be deprioritized |
| Typical monthly cost | $30 | Roughly $9 to $16 |
| Metered extras | Usage limits by tier | Varies. Some meter images and video by credit |
| Memory | Shared across everything you use Grok for | Usually scoped to the one relationship |
| Amorous.ai | Not applicable | $9 a month billed annually, $12 monthly, planned launch price |
Amorous.ai is not open for purchase yet. The price above is the launch price we intend to charge, and what exists today is the demo on this page and a waitlist, which is worth stating plainly on a page about what things cost.
If you are weighing Grok against the other big general assistant rather than against a companion app, the same structural trade offs apply and we covered them on our page comparing a GPT girlfriend against a purpose built companion.
Why Grok pricing is hard to verify, and what we did about it
xAI's own pages sit behind a Cloudflare challenge that blocks automated readers, including the reader proxies that usually get around it. That means almost every pricing article you will find, including this one, is working from secondhand sources rather than quoting the vendor. It is worth knowing that when you read confident tables of numbers.
What we did instead: cross check every figure against at least two independent write ups published within the last two weeks, mark the confidence on each row, and refuse to publish anything with a single source. The $30 and $300 figures appear in four independent round ups. The $10 Lite tier and the X Premium numbers appear in two. The annual price appears in two and both of them hedge it, so it is flagged as unconfirmed rather than presented as a saving.
One number we could verify at first hand. The Grok AI listing on the US App Store, checked on 30 August 2026 on version 1.4.30, is free to download, carries a 17+ age rating, and still advertises Grok AI Companions with Ani, Rudi and Valentine in its own marketing copy, a month after the retirement was announced. Vendors update store listings slowly. Read the description as marketing rather than as a roadmap, and check any price on the vendor's own plans page before you hand over a card.
