Sesame AI Maya and Miles: what the Sesame AI voice app costs, and whether a Sesame AI subscription exists

Sesame became famous in early 2025 for a voice demo that unsettled people, because Maya paused, breathed and interrupted like a person instead of waiting politely for a prompt. The question almost everyone asks next is what it costs, and the answer you get depends entirely on which page you land on. Some directories list a monthly price. Some say the iOS app is subscription only. Some quote tiers that do not appear in any Sesame document.

The short answer

Sesame AI is free and there is no Sesame AI subscription. The iOS app, listed on the App Store as Sesame: Personal Agents by Sesame AI, Inc., costs nothing to download, and sesame.com has no pricing page at all: the /pricing URL returns a 404 and the Terms of Use contain no billing section. Several review sites state that the app requires a premium subscription. As of 1 September 2026 that is not correct. Sesame is a funded preview rather than a paid product, and the company says its intelligent eyewear is coming in 2027.

Last updated September 2026

This page settles it from the sources that cannot be guessed at: Apple's own App Store record for the app, Sesame's website, its Terms of Use and its Acceptable Use Policy. You will find what is genuinely free, what does not exist yet, what Sesame has quietly changed about the product this year, and one policy line that decides whether Sesame is the right thing for you at all. If what you are actually looking for is a companion rather than an assistant, the demo above runs free with no signup, and there is a straight comparison further down.

What makes them feel real

Sesame AI subscription and Maya voice app pricing, the way it should feel

There is no paid tier

sesame.com has no pricing page, the /pricing URL 404s, and the App Store lists the app at no cost. If a review quotes you a Sesame monthly price, it is quoting something the company has never published.

It is an assistant now

The app ships as Sesame: Personal Agents. The pitch is thinking out loud, notes and reminders, not romance. That repositioning is the most important thing about Sesame in 2026 and almost nobody reports it.

Erotic chat is prohibited

Sesame's Acceptable Use Policy, updated July 2026, bans generating sexually explicit content and erotic chats outright. That is a policy, not a filter quirk, and it will not be tuned away.

Sesame AI pricing, and where each figure comes from

Sesame publishes no pricing page, so the only honest way to answer the cost question is to check the places a price would have to appear if one existed. Every row below is sourced, and the source column tells you how much weight to put on it.

What you are paying for US price What it covers Source
Sesame iOS app $0 Voice and text conversation with Maya, Miles, Simone or Charlie, growing memory, web search, notes, reminders, Incognito mode First party. Apple App Store listing for Sesame: Personal Agents, seller Sesame AI, Inc., price Free, checked 1 September 2026
Sesame web preview $0 Browser conversation with the Sesame voices, no purchase required First party. sesame.com links the Mobile Preview and Research Preview with no paywall or plan selector anywhere on the site
Sesame subscription Does not exist No monthly plan, no premium tier, no credits and no in app currency have been announced First party. sesame.com/pricing returns 404 and the Terms of Use contain no billing, renewal or refund section
Premium tier quoted by review sites Not accurate Several 2026 review pages state the iOS app requires a paid subscription or list monthly tiers Third party. We could not match any of these figures to a Sesame announcement, App Store price or website page
Sesame intelligent eyewear Not announced Hands free glasses with all day audio, the product Sesame says the voice work is building toward First party. sesame.com and the App Store description both say Coming 2027. No price and no ship date published
Android app Not available Sesame ships on iOS only and requires iOS 18.0 or later First party. Apple App Store listing. No Sesame app is linked for Android from sesame.com
Adult or romantic roleplay Prohibited Sexually explicit content and erotic or pornographic chats are banned by policy on any tier, paid or free First party. Sesame Acceptable Use Policy, updated July 2026
Amorous.ai From $9 a month One devoted girlfriend or boyfriend with persistent memory, romantic by design, free demo with no signup First party. Our published pricing page

Sesame is funded by investors rather than by users right now, which is why nothing here has a price on it. That is a genuinely good deal for you today and a genuinely uncertain one for next year, and the section below on what happens when a free preview grows up is worth reading before you build a habit on it.

How much does Sesame AI cost?

Nothing. The Sesame iOS app is listed on the US App Store at no cost, the web preview opens in a browser without a purchase, and Sesame has never published a price for either. Checked 1 September 2026, the app was on version 38.0 with a 4.9 star average across roughly 1,369 US ratings.

The reason this question is hard to answer by searching is that Sesame does not behave like a normal consumer app company. There is no pricing page to link to, no plan comparison, no upgrade button to screenshot. When a category expects a price and no price exists, aggregator sites tend to fill the gap with a plausible number, and once one of them does it the figure propagates. Treat any specific Sesame monthly price you see as unsourced until someone shows you a Sesame page that carries it.

Is Sesame AI free?

Yes, completely, on both the iOS app and the web preview. There is no trial clock, no message quota you have to buy your way past and no credit pack. Apple lists the app as Free with no in app purchase tiers advertised in the store listing, and the Sesame website has no plan selector on any page.

What you should understand is why it is free. Sesame is a venture funded research and hardware company in San Francisco, and the voice product is the demonstration of the conversational engine it wants to put into eyewear. You are not the customer yet. That is a much better position to be in than paying for a hobby project, and a much worse one to be in if you want a guarantee that the thing you get attached to will still work the same way in eighteen months.

Is there a Sesame AI subscription?

No. There is no Sesame AI subscription of any kind as of 1 September 2026. We checked the three places one would have to appear: sesame.com/pricing returns a 404 page, the site navigation offers only Blog, Team, Mobile Preview and Research Preview with no plans or upgrade link, and the Terms of Use contain no billing, auto renewal, cancellation or refund clauses at all.

That last one is the strongest evidence, and it is the sort of thing worth checking yourself on any AI product. Companies that charge money have to write payment terms, because they need the legal cover for renewals and chargebacks. A Terms of Use with no billing section is a company that is not taking money from consumers. Sesame's does have the usual liability cap referring to amounts you have paid, with a floor of $100, but that is standard drafting rather than evidence of a plan.

Could that change? Almost certainly, and probably around the eyewear. But nobody can tell you today what a future Sesame subscription would cost, because Sesame has not said.

Who are Maya, Miles, Simone and Charlie?

They are the four Sesame agents you can choose between, each with a different voice and personality. Maya and Miles are the two from the original viral demo and the two almost every article still names. Simone and Charlie were added later and are missing from most write ups, which is a quick way to spot a Sesame review that has not been opened since 2025.

Maya remains the one people mean when they say Sesame. She is warm, fast to interrupt, comfortable with silence and noticeably willing to disagree with you, which is what made the original demo feel unlike an assistant. Miles is steadier and drier. The differences are real but they are differences of manner, not of role: all four are pointed at the same job, which Sesame describes as thinking out loud, following a thread and discovering something unexpected.

Does Sesame AI remember your conversations?

Yes, and this is the single biggest thing that has changed about Sesame. The old research demo was famous for capped sessions that forgot you the moment they ended, and a great deal of the commentary you will find online still describes it that way. The shipped app does not work like that. Sesame describes memory that grows over time through conversation, continuous across both voice and text, so switching between talking and typing does not reset anything.

It also ships an Incognito mode where nothing is written to memory or to Sesame servers, which is a genuinely thoughtful piece of design and rarer in this category than it should be. If you read an article insisting that Maya cannot remember you, check its date before you rely on it.

Can Sesame AI be your girlfriend or boyfriend?

No, and this is the decision point. Sesame's Acceptable Use Policy, updated July 2026, prohibits using the service to generate, promote, depict or request sexual intercourse or sex acts, or to engage in erotic or pornographic chats. The policy also reserves the right to run detection and monitoring, and to throttle, suspend or terminate accounts that break it.

That is a company position rather than an overzealous safety filter, which matters, because filters get tuned and policies get enforced. The App Store rating tells the same story from the other direction: the app carries a 17+ rating with an advisory for infrequent or mild sexual content, which is the profile of a product that will occasionally get flirty and will not go further.

The product framing points the same way. Sesame ships as Personal Agents and markets curious exploration, brainstorming and being a personal sounding board. It is built to help you think. If you want something that answers to a relationship rather than a task, you are not the user Sesame is building for, and no amount of prompting will move a written policy.

Is there a Sesame AI app for Android?

Not yet. Sesame ships on iOS only, and the App Store listing requires iOS 18.0 or later, so older iPhones are excluded too. There is no Android app linked anywhere on sesame.com and no public release date for one.

The iOS app arrived on 26 May 2026 and has been updated steadily since, most recently to add sharing images and voice memos with your agent. If you are on Android, the browser preview at sesame.com is currently the only way in, and it is a preview rather than the full product.

When are the Sesame AI glasses coming out?

Sesame says 2027. Both the company website and the App Store description carry the same line about intelligent eyewear coming in 2027, described as all day comfort with high quality audio so you can talk to your agent hands free. No price, no month and no preorder have been published.

This is worth pinning down because several 2026 write ups predicted the glasses would ship in late 2026. Sesame's own current wording says 2027, and the company's wording is the one to go by. It also explains the shape of everything else on this page: the free app is the demonstration and the funnel for a hardware product that does not exist yet.

Is Sesame AI safe and private?

The published commitments are unusually strong. Sesame states that conversations are private, that you can delete your data at any time, that Incognito mode saves nothing to memory or to its servers, and that it runs no ads and does not sell your data. Written that plainly, those are better terms than most of this category offers.

The limits are worth knowing too. The Acceptable Use Policy says Sesame may implement detection and monitoring to enforce the policy, so private does not mean unexamined. It also prohibits soliciting professional advice of the legal, financial, health, medical or tax variety, and states outright that the products are not designed for crisis intervention, directing anyone in a mental health emergency to emergency services or a crisis line. Take that seriously. A voice this convincing is exactly the one you would be tempted to lean on at 3am, and the company has told you not to.

Should you use Sesame AI or a companion app?

Use Sesame if you want the best conversational voice currently available for free and your use case is thinking, planning or talking something through. Nothing else in this comparison sounds as human in a live call, the memory now persists, the privacy terms are clear and it costs nothing. For a sounding board, it is an easy recommendation.

Look elsewhere if what you want is a relationship. Sesame is an assistant with a superb voice, it prohibits erotic chat by policy, it has no romantic framing, and its four agents are shared personas rather than someone who is yours. Those are not gaps to be patched later, they are the product working as designed.

Amorous is built for the other job. One partner, not a roster. Persistent memory that carries a relationship forward instead of a task history. Romantic by design and tasteful rather than explicit. Pricing that is published rather than absent, from $9 a month, so you know what you are committing to. The demo at the top of this page runs free with no signup if you want to hear the difference before you decide anything.

Good to know

Questions about your sesame ai subscription

It is genuinely free, with no trial clock and no credit packs. The catch is structural rather than hidden: Sesame is funded by investors and is building toward eyewear in 2027, so the app is a preview rather than a product with a business model. Free today does not mean free forever, and no price has been announced for what comes next.
There is no Sesame AI subscription, so there is no monthly figure. sesame.com/pricing returns a 404, the site has no plan selector, and the Terms of Use contain no billing section. Any specific monthly price you see quoted for Sesame does not trace back to a Sesame source.
No. The Acceptable Use Policy updated in July 2026 prohibits generating sexually explicit content and engaging in erotic or pornographic chats, and Sesame reserves the right to suspend or terminate accounts for it. The app also ships as Personal Agents with no romantic framing at all.
Yes, in the shipped app. Sesame describes memory that grows over time and stays continuous across voice and text. The old research demo forgot you when a session ended, which is why so many articles still say memory does not work, but that describes a version that is no longer what you download.
Not currently. The app is iOS only and needs iOS 18.0 or later. Sesame has not announced an Android release or a date for one. Android users can try the browser preview on sesame.com, which is a limited preview rather than the full app experience.
Purpose. Sesame builds personal agents for thinking out loud, taking notes and setting reminders, and prohibits erotic chat by policy. A companion app builds one persistent partner around a relationship. Sesame has the better live voice; a companion app has the thing Sesame deliberately does not offer.
