Is Xoul AI Safe? What the Xoul App Charges and Shares

Xoul AI is a real product from Xoul Inc. in San Francisco, back since its September 2025 relaunch, and reasonably safe for adults who keep personal details out of the chat. But its FAQ says only you can see your chats while its Terms let Xoul review and commercialize them, purchases are non-refundable, and the iPhone app costs up to 29 percent more.

For an adult who keeps personal details out of the chat, Xoul AI is reasonably safe to use, and it is a real product from a real company: Xoul Inc. in San Francisco, which shut the service down once and relaunched it on September 10, 2025. The risks are in the paperwork. Its support page says only you can access your conversation history, while its Terms let Xoul review, edit and commercialize your content for any reason. Purchases are non-refundable, and the iPhone app charges up to 29 percent more than the website for the same plan.

Everything below comes from Xoul's own Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, support FAQ and official user guide, the prices its pricing API serves to xoul.ai, the code its website loads, and its App Store listing, all checked on September 27, 2026. The pages that rank for this question today are mostly competitor blogs and trust-score checkers. This one is written for the adult deciding whether to pay.

Is Xoul AI safe to use?

Mostly, for an adult, with four caveats. Xoul is not a fly by night site: its Terms and Privacy Policy name Xoul Inc. at 945 Taraval St in San Francisco, the iPhone app "Xoul AI - Imagine Anything" is sold by that same company, and the pricing and login systems are live. What you should know before paying is that the privacy promises on the support page and the rights in the signed Terms do not match, that the Privacy Policy has not been updated since May 20, 2024 even though the product changed a lot since, that the website records every session with an analytics tool the policy never names, and that nothing you buy can be refunded.

None of that makes Xoul dangerous. It does mean you should treat anything you type as readable by the company. If you are comparing Xoul with apps built around one ongoing partner rather than a catalogue of characters, our best AI companion app comparison sets the major options side by side on price, memory and terms.

Is Xoul AI still working?

Yes, on the web and on iPhone. Xoul went offline in 2025, and its official guide announced the return on September 10, 2025 with the line "Hello everyone - we're back." The site footer reads Xoul Inc 2026 and its pricing API returns current prices. Android is the gap: both package names Xoul has used return a 404 on Google Play, so there is no Android app to install and no Google Play data safety form to read. The Discord invite in the site footer has expired, even though the support FAQ still calls Discord the fastest way to get help.

How much does Xoul AI cost?

On the website, Green costs $7 a month or $72 a year, Purple $14 a month or $132 a year, and Gold $28 a month or $264 a year. Cells, the credits that pay for voice, calls, images and video, are sold separately from $1 for 70 to $200 for 19,000. On the iPhone app the same plans cost $9, $18 and $36 a month, 28.6 percent more, and 70 cells cost $2.00, twice the web price. Xoul's own guide explains that app prices are higher because Apple and Google take a cut.

PlanWeb monthlyWeb yearlyiPhone monthlyMonthly over 12 months on iPhoneCells a month
Free$0$0$0$050 once
Green$7$72$9$10850
Purple$14$132$18$216250
Gold$28$264$36$432600

Two details in that table are worth a second look. Xoul's support page and guide both say the yearly plan is 20 percent cheaper than paying monthly. On Gold and Purple it is 21.4 percent. On Green, the cheapest plan and the one most first-time buyers pick, $72 against $84 is a saving of 14.3 percent. And the yearly plan is charged in full up front, which the guide states plainly.

The free tier is usable but metered. Free users get 100 energy a day, which Xoul says covers 25 to 50 messages depending on the model, and on the iPhone app you can watch up to 20 ads a day for more energy.

What do Xoul cells actually buy?

Less than the numbers suggest. Xoul's FAQ prices a call at 10 cells a minute, a voice message at 2 to 14 cells, an image at 1 to 6 cells, a video at 20 to 60 cells, and a new custom voice at 30 cells. Gold's 600 monthly cells therefore cover about 60 minutes of calls, Purple's 250 about 25 minutes, and Green's 50 about five. Cells included in a plan expire at the end of the subscription period. If voice calls are why you are subscribing, budget for top-ups on every tier.

Are Xoul AI chats private?

Private from other users, yes. Private from Xoul, no. The support page answers "Are my chats private?" with "Yes, your conversations on Xoul are private", adds "We don't sell or share your conversation data with third parties", and says "Only you can access your conversation history". The Privacy Policy lists chat messages, created characters and uploaded images among the data Xoul collects.

The Terms of Service go much further than the FAQ. They say Xoul "may access, review, screen, edit, modify, and delete your Content at any time and for any reason, including to support and improve the Services". They also grant Xoul a "perpetual, irrevocable license" to "exploit, commercialize, and utilize the Content", including making it available "to third parties as deemed necessary or appropriate by Xoul." The FAQ is a marketing answer. The Terms are the contract you agree to, and they are the document that governs.

The Privacy Policy never mentions AI models or training. The closest line allows use of personal information for "internal research for technological development and demonstration." The Terms forbid you from using Xoul's output to train an AI model, and set no equivalent limit on Xoul.

Who else sees your Xoul AI data?

More companies than the policy names. The only analytics company the Privacy Policy names is Google Analytics. The code xoul.ai loads on every page also runs Amplitude with session replay set to record 100 percent of sessions, along with autocapture of clicks, plus Sentry for errors and Firebase. Session replay tools record what you do on the page so a developer can play it back. That is common in software, but it is not disclosed here.

The advertising clause is out of date. The policy says "we do not engage in advertising as of the date of this Policy", yet since October 2025 the apps have shown rewarded ads, and the App Store listing is marked Contains Advertising. Apple's privacy label for the iPhone app declares only data not linked to you, lists email and name in that category even though an account needs an email, and declares no advertising use. Businesses deploying AI internally now buy tools to enforce limits on what an AI tool can read and send; a consumer app gives you no such controls, so the only limit is what you choose to type.

Deleting your account is possible, with a caveat. The policy keeps personal information for as long as you have an account, but may retain some information after deletion to prevent fraud, handle investigations or meet legal requirements.

Does Xoul AI allow NSFW content?

No, and then it points you somewhere that does. Xoul's Terms prohibit creating or requesting "any sexually explicit or pornographic content" in chats, characters, images or audio, and every character is screened by automated moderation when created. But when a prompt gets filtered, Xoul's own web app shows a message reading "Looking for uncensored?" and "Creamify is uncensored, so try it there instead", with a referral link to Creamify, an adult AI generator whose Terms name C Studios LLC. Neither site explains how the two companies are connected. If explicit content is what you want, Xoul is telling you it is the wrong product.

What age do you have to be to use Xoul AI?

The Terms say 18. The Privacy Policy says you must be at least 18 "or that you are the parent or guardian of such a minor and consent to such minor dependent's use of the Services", which is a different rule. The only age check at signup is a checkbox confirming you are over 18. The App Store shows an 18+ rating.

For a parent, the answer is that a teenager can join by ticking a box. For an adult buyer, the point is different: a company whose Terms and Privacy Policy disagree on something as basic as age, and whose FAQ and Terms disagree on who can read your chats, is one whose friendliest document you should not rely on.

Can you get a refund from Xoul AI?

No. The Terms say "All purchases are non-refundable", subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled, and cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid term. The free trial is described two ways. The Terms describe a 7 day trial for new users with no charge, after which the subscription is suspended until you upgrade. The official guide describes a Purple-only trial that you purchase and are not charged for during the first 7 days, and the site button reads "Try 1 week free". If you start the trial, assume it bills on day eight and cancel before then if you are only testing.

Disputes go to binding arbitration under California law with a class action waiver, a one year limit to bring a claim, and liability capped at the fees you paid in the previous six months.

Should you pay for Xoul AI?

If you want role play with a large catalogue of community characters and scenarios, and you will pay on the web rather than in the iPhone app, Xoul is fair value, and Purple at $132 a year is the sensible tier because it removes the per message energy cost on every model. Pay on the website, not in the app, and pick the yearly plan only after the trial convinces you.

If what you actually want is one partner who knows you, the catalogue model works against you: each character is a fresh start, memory depends on how much context your tier buys, and every call is paid for in cells. That is the case Amorous is built for. One companion, the same person every day, who remembers your life and texts you first, with plans from $9 a month billed yearly and nothing metered on any plan. It is romantic rather than explicit. If you are weighing other character apps too, the same checks applied to a Hong Kong story app are in our Saylo AI review, the Sakura AI safety check covers another catalogue app, and our best AI companion app for privacy ranks the category on exactly the data questions above.
