Is Talkie AI Safe? What Talkie Collects Before You Pay

For an adult who keeps personal details out of the chat, Talkie AI is reasonably safe to use, and it is a real product from a real company: SUBSUP PTE. LTD., a Singapore subsidiary of the Hong Kong listed AI firm MiniMax. The risks are specific. Its privacy disclosures contradict each other, its bans are final, and Talkie+ is non-refundable once billed.

Everything below comes from Talkie's own Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, its community guidelines, the Apple App Store and Google Play listings checked on September 15, 2026, and the prospectus MiniMax filed with the Hong Kong stock exchange. Most pages ranking for this question are parental control guides. That is a fair question for a parent, and it gets a short answer near the end. The rest of this article is for the adult deciding whether Talkie deserves a card number.

Is Talkie AI safe to use?

Mostly, with three caveats worth knowing before you pay. Talkie is not a fly by night app. MiniMax's prospectus names SUBSUP as one of its two major subsidiaries, reports that Talkie and its Chinese sister app Xingye averaged 20,051,000 monthly active users in the first nine months of 2025, and describes content screening that combines automatic detection with human review. The Google Play version shows more than 50 million downloads.

The caveats are about what you agree to rather than about malware. First, Talkie describes its data collection differently depending on where you read it, which makes it hard to know what you are actually handing over. Second, its Terms let it suspend an account for any reason or no reason, and its guidelines call moderation decisions final, so a paid account and every character you built can disappear. Third, the subscription renews until you cancel it through the store, and fees are non-refundable. None of those is unusual on its own. Together they mean you should treat Talkie as entertainment you rent month to month, not a relationship you invest in.

Who owns Talkie AI?

SUBSUP PTE. LTD., incorporated in Singapore on September 14, 2022, according to the subsidiary table in MiniMax's prospectus, where its business is listed as operation of AI native products. SUBSUP also holds the Talkie trademark registrations. MiniMax describes Talkie as its product for international markets and Xingye as the version for mainland China.

One detail is worth a second look. The Google Play listing gives SUBSUP's address as a building on Kaki Bukit Avenue 4 in Singapore, while the dispute section of Talkie's Terms tells you to mail legal notices to a different address on Emerald Hill Road. Both are in Singapore and a company can have more than one address, but if you ever need to send a formal notice, use the one the Terms name, and send the email copy they also require.

Is Talkie AI banned in the US?

No. Talkie was pulled from Apple's App Store in December 2024 and it is back, under a different listing. MiniMax's prospectus says a prior version of the Talkie app was removed from Apple's App Store in certain jurisdictions for about two months, that Apple did not specify the reasons, and that an updated app has been available since mid-February 2025. It says existing users kept access and that Google Play downloads were unaffected. Claims that the removal was about national security or data privacy are not supported by anything the company or Apple published.

The practical consequence is on your phone. The original iPhone app no longer exists in the US store. The listing Talkie's own website now links to is called Talkie Lab, AI Playground, sold by SUBSUP PTE. LTD., released February 11, 2025, and its store description talks about an AI playground rather than character chat, although its purchases are named Talkie+ and Talkie Gems. Meanwhile the App Store carries apps from other developers with Talkie in the name: one listed in 2025 as Talkie AI: Chat, Talk, Text from a different company, and two small apps called Talkie AI and Talkie AR from individual developers. Before you pay on an iPhone, check that the seller shown under the app name is SUBSUP PTE. LTD. On Android the real app is Talkie: Creative AI Community, developer SUBSUP.

Are Talkie AI chats private?

Private from advertisers, by Talkie's own promise. Not private from Talkie. Its Privacy Policy says it collects the messages you send and receive, including voice and text messages, along with profile details such as birth date, gender, education and work status, device identifiers, IP address and approximate location. It says chats are used for allowing your AI companion to learn from your interactions, for analytics and improving features, and for preventing fraud and misuse. It also says Talkie will never use or disclose the content of your conversations for marketing or advertising.

The problem is that Talkie's store disclosures do not match that policy, and they do not match each other either.

Two more things belong in the picture. MiniMax told Hong Kong investors that its model training data do not involve customer data or personal data that can identify people, while Talkie's own policy never uses the word training and describes companions learning from your interactions instead. And in February 2024 Mozilla's Privacy Not Included review of the older Talkie Soulful AI app reported 223 trackers within a minute of use. That review is now only readable in archived copies and tested an app that has since been replaced, so treat it as history rather than a verdict on today's version.

The sensible posture follows from the documents. Use an email address that is not your main one, leave your real name, employer and city out of your chats, and do not tell a character anything you would mind a moderator reading, because content review is exactly how Talkie says it keeps the platform clean.

How much is Talkie+, and can you get a refund?

On September 15, 2026 the US App Store listed two Talkie subscriptions: 1 Month at $9.99 and 1 Month Talkie+ Pro at $24.99. Renewed for a year, that is $119.88 and $299.88. The same list shows Talkie Gems from $1.99 to $19.99, a 7 day Sparks Pass at $0.59, and a Talkie+ Plus Coin at $5.99 that the listing does not explain. No annual Talkie+ plan appears in Apple's visible list today, although an archived December 2024 listing showed a 1 Year plan at $49.99. Google Play gives a range of $0.49 to $199.99 per item without naming items.

What Talkie+ buys is thinly documented. The Terms say only that it gives full access to the Services. MiniMax's prospectus is more specific: more chat reply regenerations, enhanced chat memory, faster responses, and no ads, which are shown only to free users as banners, interstitials and short videos.

Refunds are the weak point. Talkie's Terms say subscriptions are paid monthly through the app store you bought from, renew automatically until canceled, and can be modified or canceled only through that store. Refunds cannot be claimed for partial months, all fees are non-refundable to the fullest extent the law allows, and fees may increase at any time. Deleting Talkie from your phone does nothing to the billing. If you subscribe and drift away from the app, a tool that tells you the day a recurring charge lands catches a $24.99 renewal before it quietly becomes $299.88 a year. The one refund route Talkie's policy does not control is the store itself: an App Store or Google Play purchase can be raised with Apple or Google directly.

Can Talkie ban your account?

Yes, and without explaining why. Talkie's Terms allow it to terminate or suspend access to all or part of the service for any reason or no reason, and to do so immediately and without notice where it finds fraud or a breach. Its community guidelines say moderation combines human oversight with AI, that accounts which repeatedly disregard the rules may be suspended or terminated, and that moderation decisions are final. Its web app does include a ban appeal page.

The content rules are strict. The guidelines prohibit both explicit sexual content and content with suggestive or implicit sexual undertones, for every user, and Talkie's Terms and policy describe no adult mode. Two more clauses matter if you build characters. The Terms say Talkie has no responsibility for the deletion or failure to store any content, and reserve the right to close accounts left inactive for an extended period. And the licence you grant over what you create is perpetual, irrevocable and transferable, and covers promotion and marketing. When you delete your account, Talkie's own deletion page says your conversations are wiped permanently and the characters you created stay on the platform with the creator shown as Null.

What do you give up if something goes wrong?

Your day in a US court, unless you act within 30 days. Talkie's Terms waive jury trial and class actions and send disputes to binding JAMS arbitration seated in Singapore, after 45 days of informal negotiation, with the proceedings kept strictly confidential. If you file, you pay the fees unless the arbitration rules grant a waiver. Any claim must be filed within one year, and Talkie's total liability is capped at what you paid in the last six months or $100, whichever is greater.

You can opt out. The Terms let an individual consumer opt out of arbitration within 30 days of first agreeing to them, by emailing the feedback address SUBSUP publishes with your name, residence address, username, the email or phone number on your account, and a clear statement that you are opting out. For an American paying monthly, Singapore arbitration is not a realistic remedy, so if you plan to keep a subscription, sending that email in week one costs nothing.

Is Talkie AI safe for kids?

Not for children. Talkie's Terms say the service does not address anyone under 16 and that users aged 16 or 17 need a parent or guardian's permission. The stores disagree with each other: Google Play rates the app Teen with sexual themes and user interaction, while Apple's current listing shows 18+ with age assurance and parental controls. MiniMax says a Teen Mode applies stricter controls and locks the app between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. A parent should set that up or keep the app off the phone.

Is Talkie AI a real person?

No. Talkie characters are generated by AI, and the Terms state that outputs may contain inaccuracies or errors. MiniMax's prospectus says the app shows periodic reminders during long sessions so users remember they are talking to a virtual character rather than a human. Characters are created by other users, though, and Talkie's Terms say it does not pre-screen content, so a character's persona and opening lines were written by a person you do not know.

Should you pay for Talkie+?

If you enjoy browsing a huge library of user made characters and are happy inside a platform that bans romance with any sexual undertone, Talkie+ at $9.99 a month is a reasonable, low commitment purchase. Pay monthly, cancel through the store rather than by deleting the app, send the arbitration opt out, and share nothing identifying.
